Given the need for better ways of predicting prostate cancer outcomes, the anti-oxidant function of GPX1 and its responsiveness to selenium availability, we examined whether the levels of GPX1 in human prostate tissue were associated with recurrent cancer among men who were treated for their disease following prostatectomy using a tissue microarray that is specifically designed to test this relationship. The gene discussed is GPX1; the disease is Familial prostate cancer.
