IGHE and allergic disease: Specifically, it offers a rationale behind the ability of Der p 1 to elicit IgE-independent cytokine production through mechanisms involving the activation of (i) redox-sensitive transcription factors, (ii) signalling cascades strongly associated with allergy (e.g., mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) and the signal transducer and activation of transcription (STAT) family), and (iii) DNA damage [115,116,117].
