At tumour sites, regardless of the control used for comparison, we also observed the upregulation of virulence factors associated with chemotaxis (cheR and cheV), iron uptake activities (ferrous iron transporters, iron transport systems and yersiniabactin), protease activity (zinc metalloproteases, ATP-dependent Clp protease, serine protease and immunoglobulin protease), type II, III and IV secretion system proteins, oligopeptide ABC transporters, flagellum synthesis and assembly (FlgG, FliL and flagellar MS-ring protein), and fibronectin-fibrinogen-binding proteins (Supplementary Table 5).
