Recent evidences showed that the exposure of rat H9c2 cardiac myocytes to high glucose can be considered an useful in vitro model of myocardial hypertrophy, since high glucose levels rapidly induce connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) mRNA that mediates hypertrophy on H9c2 cells (Wang et al., 2009; Han et al., 2015; Li et al., 2017; Wei et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene CCN2 and cardiac hypertrophy.
