IL6 is a multifunctional cytokine playing a role in inflammation and the acute phase response,110 immune response,111–113 hematopoiesis,114 glucose and lipid metabolism,115 and bone-turnover.116 It crosses the blood–brain barrier (BBB),117 and there is evidence of increased cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) IL6 levels in psychosis,13 indicating that peripheral IL6 could influence brain function. Here, IL6 is linked to psychotic disorder.
