In comparison, published results in the mdx mouse, a model for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, showed that already at 12 weeks of age > 70% of lower limb muscle myofibers were centrally nucleated [1], indicating that the disease-mediated muscle-regenerative response is relatively mild in Gaa−/− muscle. The gene discussed is GAA; the disease is Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
