Recently, in ICU patients, cell-cycle arrest biomarkers were identified as very promising for early detection of kidney aggression: the combination of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP-2) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-7 (IGFBP-7) showed high sensitivity and specificity, outperforming other biomarkers for early detection of AKI [13, 14]. This evidence concerns the gene IGFBP7 and acute kidney injury.
