Extracellular LPS binds specifically to the cell surface TLR4/MD2 receptor complex, followed by initiation of the MyD88 and TRIF signaling pathways, ultimately leading to an explosive cascade of a large number of inflammatory mediators produced by multiple organs and detected in the systemic circulation, which is commonly termed a “cytokine storm.” These inflammatory mediators can together lead to host toxic shock and sepsis [6]. Here, TLR4 is linked to Sepsis.
