ADIPOQ and cardiovascular disorder: Assessments of the relationship between body weight and blood pressure have shown that each 10 kg loss in weight and fat under the skin significantly reduces the risk of systolic and diastolic hypertension.4,5 Adipose tissue releases several hormones, including leptin, visfatin, tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-6, and adiponectin.6 Among these hormones, adiponectin is positively associated with the regulation of glucose metabolism, increased sensitivity to insulin, beta-oxidation, and improved protection against cardiovascular diseases.
