Similarly, inhibition of IL-1 activity with potent drugs may reset the IL-1β-dependent vicious circle and cytokine-driven pathologies in patients with higher constitutive caspase 1 activity; and following a single high-dose administration of anti-IL-1β monoclonal antibody, some CAPS patients may not require additional treatment for months due to inhibition of IL-1β-dependent production of IL-1, which may be increased up-to-5-fold compared to healthy controls (10).
