The results from this study did not support the initial hypothesis, but rather show that KIR2DL2/3+ NK cells follow a consistent peptide-dependent hierarchy in their binding to HLA-C*03:04, which is independent of the underlying viral infection or vaccination, and also of whether a study subject encoded for HLA-C*03 or not, but was determined by the binding affinity of the respective HLA-C*03:04/peptide complex to KIR2DL2/3. Here, HLA-C is linked to viral infectious disease.
