Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a sight threatening complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) and one of the most frequent causes of vision loss.[1] Because vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays a central role in the development of centre-involved DME, anti-VEGF agents have been implemented as the treatment of choice for this condition. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
