MMP1 expression was significantly higher in prostate carcinoma versus in benign prostatic hypertrophy [32–34] and in high- (Gleason scores 8, 9) and intermediate- (Gleason score 7) grade versus in low-grade (Gleason scores 4, 5, 6) prostate carcinomas [35]. This evidence concerns the gene MMP1 and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
