Neuropathy, ataxia and retinitis pigmentosa syndrome (NARP), also associated with the8993T>G mutation in the MT-ATP6 mitochondrial gene, usually occurs in youngadults, as a combination of salt-and-pepper retinopathy, muscle weakness, ataxia,and sensory neuropathy. This evidence concerns the gene MT-ATP6 and syndromic retinitis pigmentosa.
