Findings from studies using animal models expressing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) mutations in RNA-binding proteins, such as Transactive Response DNA-binding protein-43 (TDP-43), indicate that this protein, which is involved in multiple functions, including transcriptional regulation and pre-mRNA splicing, represents a key candidate in ALS development. Here, TARDBP is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
