MYC and neoplasm: c‐Myc is a well‐characterized oncogene in multiple tumor types.7 c‐Myc is a master regulator of transcription, contributing to tumor development via modulation of a large number of target genes.8, 9 In human HCC, c‐Myc has been shown to be frequently amplified and/or over expressed,10, 11 and its elevated levels have been found to be associated with poor survival.10 Importantly, when c‐Myc is over expressed in the mouse liver, it leads to HCC development.12, 13 Altogether, this body of evidence indicates that c‐Myc is a driver oncogene for HCC.
