IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFa) were previously associated with thymic atrophy, and their gene expression was increased in EAE animals at the onset phase of disease [Figures 4E,F; Il6–χ(2)2 = 8.75, p = 0.0064, η2 = 0.375; Tnfa–χ(2)2 = 10.20, p = 0.0019, η2 = 0.456]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and thymus atrophy.
