TNFSF11 and osteoporosis: Currently available treatments include bisphosphonates, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), parathyroid hormone (PTH) [4], Denosumab (monoclonal RANKL (Receptor Activator of Nuclear factor Kappa-B Ligand) antibody), Strontium ranelate and supplementation of estrogens, calcium and vitamin D. Even though osteoporosis causes an increased osteoclastic bone resorption activity surpassing the rate of osteoblastic bone formation, most of the above-mentioned treatments are targeting only one of the involved cell type.
