Interestingly, the signalling pathway of transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) is often inactivated in the tumour cells and the genes for the TGFβ type I receptor (TGFβ-RI/ALK5), TGFBR1 and the type II receptor (TGFβ-RII), TGFBR2, are selective targets of genetic inactivation in pancreatic cancers [42].
