The misexpression of Plag1 in these cancers is due to chromosomal translocations that place Plag1 under the control of regulatory elements for ubiquitously expressed genes, such as Elongation factor SII gene (Tcea1) (Colitti et al., 1998), Ctnnb1 (β-catenin) (Valente et al., 2005) and Leukemia inhibitory factor receptor (Lifr) (Cvetkovic et al., 2004). The gene discussed is LIFR; the disease is cancer.
