Table 3 shows that the serum HMW adiponectin was negatively associated with the insulin level and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) among the women with SHS exposure. Among women exposed to secondhand smoke, each 1 mU/L increase in insulin was associated with a 0.29 mg/mL decrease in HMW adiponectin (95% CI [−0.40, −0.17]; p < 0.01) and each one unit increase in HOMA-IR was associated with a 1.05 unit decrease in HMW adiponectin (95% CI [−1.47, −0.63]; p < 0.01). The gene discussed is ADIPOQ; the disease is Insulin resistance.
