MTOR and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease: In the last decade, the advanced knowledge in genetics and molecular pathobiology of ADPKD focused some aberrant molecular pathways involved in the pathogenesis of the disease [2, 3] leading to controlled clinical trials aimed to delay its progression with the use of mTOR inhibitors [4], somatostatin [5], or tolvaptan [6] which, to date, is the only approved drug for ADPKD treatment.
