However, the 12-week exercise training attenuated the obesity-induced increase in cleaved caspase-3 positive cells and TUNEL-positive myonuclei (21.48 ± 2.31% vs. 4.74 ± 1.21%; 20.81 ± 2.19% vs. 8.45 ± 2.04%, respectively; p < 0.05; Figure 4), suggesting that aerobic exercise training for 12 weeks protected against obesity-induced apoptosis in the skeletal muscle. Here, CASP3 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
