A search in https://clinicaltrials.gov indicated 12 ongoing or finished trials of iron chelation for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases: four trials for Parkinson’s disease, three for Friedreich’s ataxia, two for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, one for mild Alzheimer’s disease, one for pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration and one for neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation. The gene discussed is PANK1; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
