On the basis of the CD14 and CD16 expression levels, CD14+ monocytes were subdivided into classical (CD14hiCD16−, “classical Mo”), intermediate (CD14hiCD16+, “intermediate Mo”), and non-classical (CD14loCD16+, “non-classical Mo”) subsets (Fig 1A and S1 Fig) and were quantified in untreated T. cruzi-infected subjects, seronegative (uninfected) patients with DCM, and in seronegative healthy controls. The gene discussed is CD14; the disease is familial dilated cardiomyopathy.
