INS and breast cancer: The set of hormones/growth factors used in the study contained mostly mitogens (insulin, epidermal growth factor, estradiol, triiodothyronine) supposedly enhancing proliferation of at least some populations of breast cancer cells, and factors (hydrocortisone, cholera toxin) promoting attachment and spread of the breast cancer cells and formation of focal contacts, i.e., promoting epithelial-like features.
