Consistent with these results, infection of peritoneal macrophages and iBMDMwt but not iBMDMcasp1−/− with S. Typhimurium released more SipA and SipC in the extracellular medium clearly establishing the ability of caspase-1–generated stimulus to promote release of invasion-promoting molecules from Salmonella (Fig. 1i, Supplementary Fig. S4).
