To explore if lysophospholipids such as LPC, which might be released during infection of epithelial cells with Salmonella, are involved in activating release of SipC from the pathogen, cells were treated with inhibitors of calcium independent phospholipase-A2 (iPLA2) and calcium dependent phosphoplipase-A2 (cPLA2) before infecting with S. Typhimurium. The gene discussed is PNPLA2; the disease is infection.
