On the genetic association, both imaging impairments in GM and fALFF are associated with genetic factors enriched in neuron development, synapse organization and axon pathways, highlighting genes including CSMD1, CNTNAP2, DCC, GABBR2 etc. A recent study investigated the specific gene expression patterns arising from the 108 schizophrenia-associated loci also revealed that the genes in these loci were intensively enriched in the thalamus, cerebellum and cortex during several developmental stages [65]. This evidence concerns the gene GABBR2 and schizophrenia.
