In recent years, several CD44 isoforms have garnered significant attention because of their utility as breast cancer stem cell markers;9 in a study of Jeong et al.,10 the authors use the anti-CD44 antibody (8E2F3) to demonstrate that a breast cancer stem cell phenotype (CD44+/CD24−) was significantly associated with the basal-like molecular subtype, which is predictive of a poor prognosis. The gene discussed is CD44; the disease is breast carcinoma.
