With regard to the traditional tumor markers, only β-HCG levels were significantly different in serum samples of proven disease recurrence (2.4 fold increase, p = 0.025, Mann–Whitney U test) compared to serum samples of patients with no evidence of disease, whereas no significant difference was found for AFP (p = 0.795) and LDH levels (p = 0.827).
