In search of reasons that disruption of the NE structure would benefit a cancer cell, we interrogated the Cancer Genome Atlas database and found that LEM4, a member of the prominent family of NE proteins containing the LEM domain, was significantly overexpressed in breast tumors compared to normal breast epithelium (Fig. 1a, P < 0.001, Tukey’s multiple comparisons test). The gene discussed is ANKLE2; the disease is cancer.
