GALR1 and epilepsy: Thus, the galanin agonist galnon prevents rats from PTZ‐induced seizures, an effect that is abolished by pretreatment with a GAL1‐R antisense probe.5 In fact, GAL1‐R is mediating anticonvulsive actions of endogenous and exogenous galanin in a variety of epilepsy models including kindling and status epilepticus induced by chemoconvulsants or perforant path stimulation.13 In line with these findings, galmic, a specific nonpeptide agonist of GAL1‐R, protects from status epilepticus induced by repeated perforant path stimulation.14
