Studies have shown that IGFBP-1 upregulation is correlated with intrauterine growth restriction in fetuses subjected to long-term chronic hypoxia (Chard, 1994); IGFBP-1 is also involved in the suppression of cell growth and proliferation in the euryoxic fish Gillichthys mirabilis after exposure to hypoxia (Gracey et al., 2001). This evidence concerns the gene IGFBP1 and fetal growth restriction.
