Fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) is a late-onset neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects carriers of premutation CGG repeat expansions (range: 55–200) in the fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene (Hagerman et al., 2001). This evidence concerns the gene FMR1 and fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome.
