We had reported previously that higher serum adiponectin was associated with reduced bone mineral density14 and higher prevalence of abdominal aortic calcification in haemodialysis patients1, suggesting a paradoxical association of adiponectin with all-cause mortality, atherosclerosis and osteoporosis in haemodialysis patients, even after adjustment for their body fat. This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and osteoporosis.
