The well-known locus at chromosome 12 in the MSRB3 gene [17, 18, 36], on the other hand, appears to be mostly driven by its effect on more anterior regions, being associated with the presubiculum and CA1. MSRB3, a gene involved in anti-oxidant reactions, has recently been shown to be particularly important for pyramidal neurons specifically in CA1 and to have lowered expression in the hippocampi of individuals with AD [42]. Here, MSRB3 is linked to Alzheimer disease.
