To reinforce the relevance of the effect of hyperphosphatemia in loss of skeletal muscle, we searched for evidences of senescence markers in the vastus of old mice and found a higher expression of p53 in muscle from old mice together with higher ILK and p62 expression, resembling the results obtained in cultured myoblast exposed to high extracellular phosphate concentration. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is hyperphosphatemia.
