CALCA and osteoporosis: A number of drugs have been developed and used for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis during the last 40 years, including estrogen, calcitonin, selective estrogen-receptor modulator (SERM; raloxifene), bisphosphonates, and monoclonal antibodies against the receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL; denosumab), parathyroid hormone analog teriparatide, and parathyroid hormone-related peptide analog (abaloparatide) (Neer et al., 2001; Riggs and Hartmann, 2003; Kearns et al., 2008; Khosla et al., 2012; Miller et al., 2016; Shirley, 2017).
