INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: These data indicate two aspects of the five protein panel: (1) the alterations of protein levels of these proteins in insulin-responsive tissues suggest a potential utility of the five proteins as a protein profile that can represent T2DM-associated mitochondrial functions; and (2) no associations of three upregulated proteins (SORT1, CALR, and RAB1A) with mitochondria in T2DM patients, as well as their alterations in protein levels, have previously been shown.
