Although these two pharmacological agents were shown to be effective at killing several Bcl‐2‐dependent cancer types (Oltersdorf et al.,2005; Tse et al.,2008), they were also found to induce thrombocytopenia and deregulate Ca2+ homeostasis in platelets, effects attributed to Bcl‐xL inhibition (Schoenwaelder et al.,2011; Vogler et al.,2011).
