Inducible STAT3 acetylation occurs during inflammation [11, 17] at which time acetylated STAT3 activates pro-survival pathways in a variety of human cancer cells [18] by stabilizing STAT3-STAT3 dimers [10, 19], increasing DNA binding affinity [10, 12], enhancing transcriptional activation [10, 12, 20], and promoting protein-protein interactions [10, 12, 19, 20].
