Excessive decidual inflammation during the early events of EVT invasion is a contributory factor in shallow placentation, abruption and PE.58 These data, together with our previous data showing that preterm placentas with acute chorioamnionitis also show decreased human placental P‐gp expression59 and that acute maternal inflammation leads to decreased placental P‐gp activity in a pregnant mouse model,60 lead us to suggest that aberrant early decidual inflammation may reduce P‐gp expression by EVT. Here, PGP is linked to chorioamnionitis.
