Coinciding with elevated serum concentration of TNF‐α, the myogenic capacity of satellite cells declines during aging (Conboy, Conboy, Smythe, & Rando, 2003; Sousa‐Victor et al., 2014), suggesting the unexplored possibility that TNF‐α may contribute to sarcopenia by influencing the regenerative capacity of aging satellite cells. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is sarcopenia.
