Thus, TRPV4 channels participate in changes in intracellular calcium concentration and astroglial reactivity, and TRPV4 are upregulated during cerebral ischemia.34–36,38 TRPV4 is also known to be sensitive to cell swelling and arachidonic acid and its metabolites, which are associated with cerebral ischemia.35 These hypoxia-induced deleterious effects might be further attenuated after blocking vanilloid TRPV4. Here, TRPV4 is linked to brain ischemia.
