Additionally, the KO of Mfsd2a, a major DHA transporter in the eye46 and brain47, results in drastic DHA reduction in the retina but its retinal degeneration phenotype is much less severe than that of the AdipoR1 KO as four month old Mfsd2a KO mice display only minor ONL thinning and have no significant reduction in ERGs46. This evidence concerns the gene MFSD2A and retinal degeneration.
