Both cleaved caspase-1 (p-20) in macrophage lysates and IL-1β levels in culture supernatants following infection were attenuated in the NLRP6 KO samples compared to the WT control (Fig 1F and 1G) indicating the activation of the NLRP6 inflammasome by S. aureus. Similarly, IL-18 was also reduced in NLRP6 KO BMDMs after S. aureus infection (S1A Fig). The gene discussed is IL1B; the disease is infection.
