Interestingly, the study of Sponheim et al. (2010) suggests that pericryptal myofibroblasts are a source of IL-33 in patients with ulcerative colitis, which highlights an important role of this cell type in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis and warrants for further studies on the role of pericryptal myofibroblasts in IBD. Here, IL33 is linked to ulcerative colitis.
