VEGFA and Hepatic hemangioma: Some studies have shown activity of bevacizumab in hepatic hemangiomas.18 Although the pathogenesis ofcavernous hemangioma is not known, it is hypothesized that they are formed becauseof upregulation of angiogenic factors (eg, vascular endothelial growth factor[VEGF]) and downregulation of antiangiogenesis.19,20 Compared withhepatic sinusoidal epithelial cells, VEGF-A is overexpressed in cavernous hepatichemangiomas and leads to increased angiogenesis.11 Bevacizumab exerts its effect by blocking VEGF-A.18
