Human Tau-induced nerve cell dysfunction and degeneration were previously studied in Drosophila. Models were created by expression of human wild-type Tau or Tau with frontotemporal dementia and Parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17 mutations (Ali et al., 2012, Shulman and Feany, 2003, Wittmann et al., 2001). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and frontotemporal dementia.
