Like the Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS) and Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR), the GAR reflects the systemic inflammatory response as interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) induces differentiation of B‐lymphocytes into plasma cells, which produce immunoglobulins and reduce the level of serum albumin.4, 5 Therefore, the GAR should predict the outcome after curative resection for gastric cancer (GC), as has been shown for other cancers.1, 2, 3. The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is cancer.
